D'Anu 2013 Sangiovese was awarded the Joseph H. Swafford Best of Show for the 2017 Newport Food & Wine Festival

JOSEPH H. SWAFFORD BEST OF SHOW D'Anu 2013 Sangiovese from Seven Hills Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley.

The fruit for D'Anu 2013 Sangiovese is from Oregon's small slice of the Walla Walla Valley at the Seven Hills Vineyard. Joe aged the wine in neutral French oak.  This is a savory wine with dark fruit flavors of black cherry and plum with balanced tannins and spice.

There was a total of 181 entries into the 2017 wine competition.  Judges are selected on the basis of wine knowledge, experience in wine judging, and a general familiarity of the northwest wine region.

For the last 31 years of the Newport Food & Wine Festival's forty year history, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Best-In-Show awards have been handed out to the most consistent achievers in a Commercial Wine Competition marked by one strong field after another. This early-in-the-year look at Northwest wines offers clear evidence of which wineries are on track and who to watch at other festival showcases around the country throughout the year.

Just in time for summer or those of us dreaming of summer, it's always exciting to introduce a new wine to the D'Anu family.  Joe has created a dry barrel fermented rosé with sangiovese grapes from Seven Hills Vineyard in Walla Walla A.V.A.  This rosé  has summer fruits, watermelon and strawberry, on the nose and a crisp finish. A surprisingly versatile wine that works well with summer salads or pastas and easy to enjoy on its own.

Just launched on February 11th, the rosé is now available to order for $18 (wine club discount will apply.)

Implementing the beliefs of the Goddess D'Anu

I bundle all that into a single thought. It is our responsibilities to be good stewards of Mother Earth. We buy fruit from vineyards that are either sustainable farm or are LIVE certified.  As a business, we strive to leave as small an impact on the environment as possible. If our grandchildren can enjoy the outdoors as I have, then hopefully this thought process is working.

I find it great to work with vineyard owners and vineyard managers that share the same philosophy. Starting with the vineyard growing fruit with the thought that this venture is a long term investment, the better they treat the vineyard the better the fruit will be. For generations to come.

We follow as closely as possible to follow these same principles in our choosing of vineyards and making our wines.

I hope you enjoy the wine.

Goddess Danu is considered the most ancient of all Celtic Deities. Her name means knowledge, wisdom, teacher, wealth and abundance.  She is considered by some both a goddess and god and refer to Danu as an all-encompassing Divine Source.

A Triple Goddess, which means she is able to take the form of the Maiden, the Mother or the Crone, and a Divine Lady who is the essence of the earth, the air and the essence of the water. She brings the power of versatility and teaches us to honor and respect diversity within ourselves and within others. Reminding us to honor each stage of our physical life.

Danu is commonly considered the first Great Mother of Ireland, Divine Creator aspect of the Goddess who birthed all things into being. She is an Earth Goddess, associated with fertility, growth, plenty, abundance, agriculture, cultivation and with nurturing the land.
